Guilty As Charged

It started out innocently enough.

I was tired, I needed a nap. I told the kids to keep it down for the next two hours. They of course love this time when mom is sleeping during the day. The fridge is a free for all smorgasbord. I could smell popcorn popping not three seconds after I laid down!

I laid down to take my nap, but I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned thinking about all of the things I still needed to do over the next few days to get ready for memorial day and the family that was coming to visit. About a half hour later I decided my efforts were fruitless and got up. When I came out of my room I heard all of the kids down in the family room occupied with a movie. For whatever reason I looked back up the stairs at my partially shut door and thought to myself

"Self, if they think you are upstairs asleep then they won't beg you to take them to town with you and you can have a quite drive to and from Twin Falls"

Hmmmmmm........

So I went back up to my room, quietly shut the door and tiptoed back down the stairs out to the garage and into the car. I was in the clear but, oh man, was I ever feeling guilty.

For starters I was a little worried that if the kids had an accident and needed me then I wouldn't be available to help, so I called Larry and told him where I was going and what I was doing so he could be available to help should the need arise. Problem one solved.....check!

And then I felt maybe like I should be the recipient of the "Bad Mom Award for 2009" cause I didn't want to hang with my kids every second. One phone call to Mona {who by the way thought it was totally cool that I'd snuck out on my kids, she even offered to come sleep in my bed as a decoy} with her words of wisdom and her loyal support and Problem two solved.....Check!

With each mile that got me closer to Twin the guilt started to melt away a little more. I spent a blissful hour and a half without the constant squabbling in the back seat, the nagging "I need you to buy me this", or the ever present Courtney on the phone "when are you coming home mom?".

Wow! It was heaven for a few minutes. I shopped for flowers and hoses and came home with a car load of both.

Don't get me wrong, I love my kids to pieces but even the most devoted parent can tell you that once in awhile it's nice to get out by yourself

and sometimes,

being sneaky makes it that much better! ;)

There you have it officer....that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

  4. I got caught halfway through my escapade. Which is why I only got an hour and a half to myself. Courtney came up to my room to give me a message and found me gone. She called Larry and he told her where I was. Then she called me every ten minutes until I got home. :)
