Just in case you thought the Beck family doesn't ever do anything fun.....here's a post to change your mind.
Saturday, Sept 10th we changed our plans to head to Mt Home and went south instead. Packed our picnic lunch, jumped in the car and drove the hour needed to get to City of Rocks National Reserve. Neighbors and friends have mentioned the park more than once, but honestly I thought "who would want to look at a bunch of rocks? Well folks, these aren't just any rocks, these are AWESOME rocks! I wouldn't lie.
We came into the reserve from the Oakley side. As you come around a bend or two you start to see individual towering rocks, (some of these babies are over six stories tall according to the brochure). It is the strangest thing to see so many towering structures of solid granite (I think) when this entire area is covered in volcanic rock. We ate our picnic, climbed the rocks, worried over Braden falling a few stories to his death (which he didn't do), hiked on a few of the shorter trails, watched some expert rock climbers climb the sheer face of one rock, and generally had a good time.
Braden at the end of the day, ready to go.
Larry climbing on the rocks above
Gabby in her cozy cave.
Courtney and her BFF Chelsea
Ally in the window arch
We had such a good time, we're hoping to go back soon.
