Back to School

The first day of school for me always smelled like hairspray and fall.

Sometimes during the year I would catch a wiff of one of those things and remember standing at the bus stop in my shorts waiting for the bus to come.  I have a particular memory of those things.  I don't know why it stuck in my mind but it was the first day of my sophmore year.  I had on my yellow shorts and I smelled of hairspray and the crisp morning air.  Since then the first day of school to me has always had this association.

The girls started their first day of school yesterday!  Gabby is a Junior, Courtney a Freshman, and Ally is in fifth grade.  Honestly, tell me, do I look old enough to have two kids in High School?

Never mind, don't answer that.

Yesterday when I dropped Ally off at school (Gabby and Courtney had early morning seminary) and after I paid the fees, dues, and so on I was walking out of the school and had a brief glimmer of dislike for that place.  Dislike because they take my kiddos every year from me.  But I know it is for the best.  I am not a very good homeschool mom, and I am grateful that they have a place where they can go to get a good education.

We have struggled for the past year, wondering what to do about Braden.  He turned five in July so technically he is old enough for school, but we worry that the all day every day bit might be too much for him.  I am still trying to find preschool options nearby.  If you know of any let me know

First day of school 2010

I can't help but notice how tired they look.  They were all pretty eager to crawl into bed last night!
